Hello, welcome to my website. My name is Nikka. I’m 28, and live in Chandler, Arizona. I have only just decided to try and pull off being a professional artist. Prior to this year I had done my art on my ‘off time’. My jobs never had anything to do with my art. This was bothersome, but I have bills to pay like everyone else. This summer my husband Stephen and I decided it was time for me to move to the next level with my art. I am in the process of trying to get a job with one of the local schools, so I can accelerate my goals by attending college. I wish to get a degree in Art Education.
I have been painting on and off since I was in high school. I initially wanted to paint fantasy stuff like Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell, and still would like to. The fact is I am self taught for the most part and have had trouble getting the human figure to come out proportioned. This led me to painting a lot of neat backgrounds, with no subject. I also got discouraged easily. In February 2006 I took up the brush yet again and painted more abstract things that did not really require me to deal with much proportion. I have not stopped painting this time out of frustration, but kept at it with my dreams in the forefront of what drives me to continue. I still am keeping a mythology/fantasy feel to all my art. A few recent drawing classes at the nearby community college have improved my abilities. I hope to continue with art classes to help me incorporate figures and detail into my paintings and improve the stories they create with their imagery.
My affiliation with the moon has been a lifelong affliction for the beauty and grandeur that I see within it; the Mother Goddess. I am pagan/wiccan and see myself as a child of the moon. I have watched its waxing and waning across the sky for as long as I can remember. It makes me smile knowing she is up there full of mystery. One day I’ll have my paintings on book covers, but for now I paint the moon.
For more info about me check out my Myspace page. There you can read my blog and see snap shots of the occasional work in progress. Since an update to my Myspace does not require the help of my husband, it is likely new art will be seen there first.
Thank you for taking the time to read about me. Please sing my guestbook and let me know what you think.
Bright Blessings,
